IceCube Neutrino Observatory
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory detects a special kind of radiation in antarctic ice. This so called Cherenkov radiation is triggered by elusive cosmic neutrinos interacting with matter. Fascinating, right?
To get a better sense of the size of the detector and help understand its composition, my colleagues at Science Communication Lab and I built an augmented reality app that lets the user explore a 3D model of IceCube in their own space.
I was tasked with creating the concept for the app, shading the models and programming in Unity and had a lot of fun seeing the project through from the very beginning to bringing the app into both the App Store and Play Store.

Using the tracking card, you can explore both the so called digital optical modules (DOM’s) and the whole detector structure separately.
